Minecraft meets Hollywood! The highly anticipated adaptation, featuring Emma Myers and Jack Black, has been in development for quite a while. Announced back in 2014 following Warner Bros’ acquisition of the beloved video game franchise, the project has faced numerous delays in advancing beyond the development phase. So, when can we finally expect to see this exciting film hit the big screen?

Who Is in the Cast in ‘Minecraft?’
Emma and Jack aren’t the only stars that will be in the film, as Aquaman actor Jason Momma is also set to feature in the upcoming movie as Garrett ‘The Garbage Man’ Garrison.
Jack will be taking on the video game’s original character, “Steve!”, much to fans’ delight, while Emma will be playing a character named Natalia. Danielle Brooks and Sebastian Eugene Hansen are also apart of the star-studded cast, starring as characters Dawn and Henry, respectively.
In January 2024, Deadline announced that Jennifer Coolidge would be joining the Minecraft universe.
What Is the Plot of ‘Minecraft’?
The official synopsis of the movie is as follows:
“Welcome to the world of Minecraft, where creativity doesn’t just help you craft, it’s essential to one’s survival! Four misfits — Garrett ‘The Garbage Man’ Garrison (Jason), Henry (Sebastian), Natalie (Emma) and Dawn (Danielle) — find themselves struggling with ordinary problems when they are suddenly pulled through a mysterious portal into the Overworld: a bizarre, cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination. To get back home, they’ll have to master this world (and protect it from evil things like Piglins and Zombies, too) while embarking on a magical quest with an unexpected, expert crafter, Steve (Jack). Together, their adventure will challenge all five to be bold and to reconnect with the qualities that make each of them uniquely creative…the very skills they need to thrive back in the real world.”
The movie was directed by Jared Hess, who you may know as the director of Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre.
When Will ‘Minecraft’ Premiere?
The live-action adaptation has been set by Warner Bros to open on April 4, 2025, according to Deadline.
