On Friday, August 16, Miley Cyrus dropped a new song — and the lyrics behind the tune seem to have tons of hidden messages.

The song, titled “Slide Away,” seemingly addresses her very recent breakup with longtime boyfriend (and husband of eight months), Liam Hemsworth. Just take a listen for yourself! Trust us when we say it’s pretty obvious this is a breakup song all about her split with her former bae.

While the 26-year-old “Nothing Breaks Like a Heart” singer has not confirmed that her latest track is all about her broken relationship with the actor, it didn’t take fans long to connect the dots. You see, the tune starts out by painting a picture of moving on from a certain relationship… and destination, perhaps? In this case, it sounds a lot like Miley is ready to leave both Liam and Malibu behind. As fans know, Miley’s 2017 track “Malibu” is all about her beautiful life with Liam in the western Los Angeles beach city, which is where they called home. Now, “Slide Away” is seemingly about moving on from that era.

She sings, “Once upon a time, it was paradise. / Once upon a time, I was paralyzed. / Think I’m gonna miss these harbor lights. / But it’s time to let it go. / Once upon a time, it was made for us. / Woke up one day, it had turned to dust. / Baby, we were found, but now we’re lost. / So it’s time to let it go.”

Fans believe the “turned to dust” lyric refers to the former lovebirds’ old Malibu home, which unfortunately burned down in November 2018.

It’s been a heartbreaking few days. This is what’s left of my house. Love. Many people in Malibu and surrounding areas in California have lost their homes also and my heart goes out to everyone who was affected by these fires. I spent the day in Malibu yesterday and it was amazing to see the community pulling together to help each other out in any way they can. Malibu is a strong community and this event is only going to make it stronger. Thankful for the all the great local guys that helped keep smaller fires out around my property. I love u guys. I love you Malibu. Thank you to all the hero firefighters around California. It’s going to be a journey to rebuild. Stay strong all. To help/donate visit @malibufoundation and @happyhippiefdn

If you’re familiar with the couple’s history, you know that they fell in love on set of “The Last Song” back in 2009. And the pre-chorus of Miley’s new song suggests that they’ve just grown apart since then.

“Move on, we’re not 17. / I’m not who I used to be. / You say that everything changed. / You’re right, we’re grown now,” the lyrics read.

And so, Miley feels that it’s time they part ways.

“So won’t you slide away. / Back to the ocean, I’ll go back to the city lights,” she sings.

UGH, this hurts for Miam shippers! While these lyrics are seriously wrecking our hearts, we wish the two nothing but happiness — together or apart.
